Repair and Maintenance

Just like any sophisticated system, our HVAC mini splits need a bit of care to keep running smoothly. Occasionally, they might need repairs, and regular mini split maintenance is key to keeping them at their best. Common issues like refrigerant leaks, broken air handlers, or leaking water can arise, but routine upkeep — like cleaning filters and checking refrigerant levels — helps prevent these problems before they start.

To ensure your system stays in top shape, we recommend regular ductless mini-split maintenance services. This proactive approach extends the lifespan of your system and ensures consistent, energy-efficient cooling and heating all year round. Regular mini split filter replacement is an essential part of your routine maintenance. Over time, the filters can become clogged with dust, debris, and other airborne contaminants. Our team will guide you on the optimal filter replacement schedule to maintain peak air quality and system efficiency.

Replacement

While these systems are known for their exceptional durability, no system lasts forever. Over time, even the most well-maintained unit will eventually reach the end of its lifespan, which is typically around 10-15 years. When the time for mini split replacement comes, it’s crucial to choose a reputable HVAC contractor to ensure the process is handled with the utmost care and expertise.

Trust Ben’s Plumbing, Heating & Air to help you breathe new life into your home comfort system.

Regular cleaning by a qualified technician removes these contaminants, ensuring optimal airflow, boosting energy efficiency, and promoting healthier indoor air.

At Ben’s Plumbing, Heating & Air, we offer a thorough ductless mini split cleaning service to keep your system running at its best. With our attention to detail, you can breathe easy, knowing your ac system is providing the healthy, energy-efficient climate control you deserve.

Which HVAC System Is Right For You?

Selecting the right HVAC system for your home is a big decision, with many factors to consider, such as the size of your space, your budget, and the local climate. If you’re leaning towards a mini-split system, you’re on the right track toward energy efficiency and customized comfort.

To help you make an informed choice, let’s explore the different mini-split options:

Single-Zone vs. Multi-Zone Systems: Single-Zone systems are ideal for cooling or heating a single room or small apartment, with one outdoor unit and one indoor unit. Multi-Zone systems, on the other hand, are perfect for larger homes, allowing a single outdoor unit to connect to up to five indoor units, each with its own thermostat.
Smart Features for Modern Living: Look for mini-splits with Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling you to control the system remotely using your smartphone. Some models also feature built-in air purifiers for cleaner, healthier indoor air.
Efficiency Matters: When evaluating mini-split systems, pay close attention to the SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating. Higher SEER ratings translate to greater energy savings, potentially offsetting the higher upfront cost.
Matching Your Style: Mini-splits offer a variety of indoor unit options, including wall-mounted, ceiling cassette, and floor-mounted models, allowing you to find the perfect aesthetic fit for your home.

Our team at Ben’s Plumbing, Heating & Air is here to guide you through the selection process, ensuring you find the HVAC mini-split system that seamlessly meets your needs and delivers the ultimate in home comfort.

Cost of Mini Splits Services

Embarking on a home improvement journey with HVAC mini splits is an intelligent decision for enhanced comfort and energy efficiency. However, like any significant investment, it’s crucial to understand the costs involved. Several factors can influence the final mini split installation cost.

At Ben’s Plumbing, Heating & Air, we’re here to guide you through the selection and installation process, ensuring you find the perfect mini split solution for your home and budget. Our expert team will provide a detailed cost estimate and help you explore financing options to make your new system a reality.

Let’s delve into the key cost drivers:

Heating or Cooling: Do you require a system that provides both heating and cooling or just cooling? The cost of a mini-split heat pump is generally higher than a cooling-only model by 10-20%.
Number of Indoor Units: Mini splits are incredibly versatile, allowing you to connect multiple indoor units to a single outdoor condenser. Each indoor unit added to the system will influence the overall mini split system installation cost.
Unit Type and Features: The type of indoor unit you select also plays a role. Wall-mounted units are the most common. On the other hand, if you prefer a more discreet look, ceiling cassette units are available but can increase costs.
Installation Complexity: The complexity of the installation is another crucial factor. Factors like the ease of access for installation, the distance between units, and the need for additional electrical work can all influence labor costs.
System Size and Capacity: The capacity of the system, measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units), directly impacts its price.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a mini split?

A mini split, also known as a ductless mini split system, is a type of heating and cooling technology that provides targeted climate control without the need for bulky ductwork. It consists of an outdoor compressor/condenser unit and one or more indoor air-handling units connected by a small conduit. This innovative design allows you to cool or heat specific rooms or zones, rather than your entire home, making mini splits highly energy-efficient.

What size mini split do I need?

Determining the right size system for your home depends on several factors, including the square footage of the space, the climate, and the insulation levels. As a general guideline, a system’s capacity is measured in British Thermal Units (BTUs) per hour. A good rule of thumb is to estimate 20-30 BTUs per square foot of living space. However, our experts at Ben’s Plumbing, Heating & Air will conduct a thorough evaluation of your home to recommend the optimal size mini split that will deliver the perfect balance of comfort and efficiency.

How does a mini split work?

Mini split systems work by transferring heat, rather than generating it. The outdoor compressor/condenser unit contains the system’s refrigerant, which absorbs heat from the air outside and pumps it indoors through a small conduit. The indoor air-handling unit then releases this warm air into the room. In cooling mode, the process is reversed, with the outdoor unit expelling heat from the indoor air, providing cool, comfortable air circulation.

How much does a mini split cost?

The cost of a system can vary depending on factors such as the brand, capacity, number of indoor units, and the complexity of the installation. On average, a single-zone mini split system can range from $3,000 to $5,000, including installation. Multi-zone systems that serve multiple rooms can cost between $5,000 to $12,000 or more. While mini splits may have a higher upfront cost compared to traditional HVAC systems, their superior energy efficiency can result in significant long-term savings on your utility bills.

These guys were just incredible. We had kind of a tricky issue with the plumbing under a toilet. We checked three other plumbers and got quotes ranging from $2700 - $4200. And that was just to cut a lead pipe, replace it with modern materials and mount the toilet on a new ring/grease fitting. All the bids included some strange tinker toy like plumbing routing to fix the problem. One plumber suggested that we cut a hole into a plaster wall to gain access to the pipes! Ben's plumbing came in at $1200 and that included a brand new toilet! No strange rerouting of the plumbing. Just an in place repair. The plumber, Nic Huse, was unbelievably competent and efficient. He told us what he intended to do and just...did it. In about 2.5 hours. No fuss, no muss. If I could give these guys six stars out of five, I would.

I hired Ben's to take care of the plumbing for two bathroom fluffs in our home - the first visit involved removing the old faucets and the second visit was to install new faucets and a (tricky) Kohler Reach toilet. I can't remember the first plumber's name, but Nick did the installs and they were both great to work with. Nick even hauled away our old toilets. With both encounters the experience was positive in every way - they were responsive, able to come out fairly quickly, professional, and cleaned-up well after they were done. Their pricing seemed reasonable, too. We'll definitely use them again.
